EVEREST BRAILLE PRINTER FOR SINGLE-SHEET CUT PAPER
Using single-sheet cut paper is an easy and effective system for braille production. With Everest, the printed documents are ready for
binding immediately after printing. Everest can be used in an efficient way with any paper similar to that used in other single-sheet
feeding systems. There is no need for hand separation, special cutting equipment for the paper, or even any special paper, thus making
it a useful alternative to continuous paper systems.
Everest dot quality is one of the best on the market. It has equally formed dots that will last for a long time even if thin 'copy paper' is used,
and the design reduces the risk of holes or cracked dots. A cracked dot will have a limited life time. Using thinner paper is an important
step in reducing costs and saving the global environment.
The noise level of Everest is lower than that of most Braille printers on the market. Using Everest together with the optional Everest
Acoustic Hood reduces the noise to a level below what is normally acceptable in offices. The optimised professional design makes
maintenance accessible and easy all around the world.
SPEECH-GUIDED USER INTERFACE
Blind and sighted users are guided equally by speech feedback, together with the print and Braille-labelled front panel. The speech is
available in a number of languages.
400 PAGES PRINT BUFFER
The 400 kB text buffer in Everest makes it possible to print large documents without stalling your computer.
COPY MACHINE

DOUBLE-SIDED EMBOSSER FOR BRAILLE MAGAZINES
In the past, production of braille books has been hard, tedious work, making low volume editions very expensive, and in many situations i
mpractical. The Index 4X4 Professional automatically produces braille magazines, books, and newspapers, in a saddle stitch format.
This makes even low volume small editions cost effective. Format the text for printing, after printing collate the pages, staple and fold.
Bound braille magazines EASY!
SINGLE-SHEET PAPER FEED FOR CUT PAPER
A single-sheet paper feed system is the most efficient way to produce small braille magazines and braille books. The Index 4X4
Professional can load 70 to 100 pages of paper with dimensions large enough to accommodate four pages of braille print in its paper-
feed system. The total paper output from the paper feed system is approximately 280 to 400 pages of embossed material, with a total
embossing time of 1 to 1.5 hours before needing to reload paper.
SPEECH-GUIDED USER INTERFACE
The user interface panel guides the blind or sighted user with a push-button control panel labeled in braille and print. After a button is
pressed, the user will have voice conformation telling what mode of operation or button was pressed. The speech is available in a
number of languages. There is a DOS-interface disk for deaf-blind users.
INDEX 4X4 SOLVES PROBLEMS OF BRAILLE PRODUCTION
Previously, the following problems persisted with production of small to medium braille books. Producers of braille materials were often
heard commenting:
- The binding process of braille books is expensive.
-
It takes a lot of time to tear off the tractor feed holes and bind the documents.
-
The braille paper is too expensive and can not be purchased locally.
-
I do not want to turn my office into a braille plant with large equipment that will limit space for other needs.
WHAT IS THE INDEX 4X4 PROFESSIONAL?
The Index 4X4 Professional is a high performance production braille embosser. Braille production braille text is now processed the
same way that a person or company would print regular printed material. When a file is transmitted to the Index 4X4 from a computer, it is
processed in the following manner:
-
The Embosser receives the translated braille text from the computer and stores it in memory (maximum 100 pages = 400 pages braille
text)
-
The logic circuits (machine programming), collates the full document into a format that can be stitch or staple bound. For example, the first
sheet printed for a forty page document will consist of page numbers 1, 2, 39, and 40.
-
The full document is embossed, the embosser automatically embosses a pre-folding line in the center of each page to make the folding
process easier.
-
The only process left is for the person producing the braille document to fold and staple. The book is finished !
SADDLE STITCH BINDING FORMAT
Saddle Stitch is the term for staple or 'stitch' binding used by newspapers and magazines. It used to be only for materials printed or
embossed on big plate machines. This format is easy to read, lasts a long time, and is inexpensive to produce volumes of text.
In the past, the
problem related to the staple stitch system was that it could only be used by the big plate machines. This made stitch bindings'
advantages impractical for small editions. Documents which were not to be produced in large quantities were too costly when a plate
printer was to be used.
With a plate system, the production personnel would calculate the page layout, prepare the plate, print the material, stack the paper in its
proper order, sorting, binding, then folding.
The Index 4X4 performs all the plate production processes that were tedious and time consuming in its logic circuitry. The document is
processed the same way that any document sent to an embosser is processed, (with or without the use of a braille translation program or
braille editor). After the 4X4 receives a complete file, the number of pages will be calculated and formatted automatically. The pages will be
printed in correct order in the format selected. After the embossing process, the material is stacked in correct order for final stapling and
hand folding.
"THE BINDING PROCESS OF BRAILLE BOOKS IS TOO EXPENSIVE"
Using the Index 4X4, the binding process
consists of only two steps, stapling and folding. The braille embosser stacks the paper in
correct order and prepares the embossed material for folding by embossing a line across the area to be folded. To complete the process,
staple the center of the page and hand fold the book.
"IT WAS NOT EFFECTIVE TO PRODUCE LOW PRODUCTION RUNS OF BRAILLE BOOKS"
Braille editions were often obsolete before the text was received by the person requesting the information. Using the Index 4X4, braille
production is on an as-needed basis. Braille books can be supplied on demand. There will no longer need to be stocked braille production.
The cost of producing braille books that will never be read is now a thing of the past.
"BRAILLE PAPER IS TOO EXPENSIVE"
The Index 4X4 uses cut sheet card stock paper, which can be purchased from local paper suppliers, who distribute for the major paper
manufacturers. Paper prices are dramatically reduced when purchased in this way; combine this feature with the embossers ability to
produce four pages of braille for each sheet of paper (which further reduces waste and cost). The paper, when purchased locally, decreases
delivery time and associated delivery costs. You can probably say the Index 4X4 is the environmentally-friendly braille embosser, when
you think of the saved paper, and saved petroleum to deliver and store paper on the production site.
"I DO NOT WANT TO TURN MY OFFICE INTO A BRAILLE PRODUCTION PLANT"
The Index 4X4 Professional is a small braille production machine. It does not require any structural changes to a room to accommodate
the embosser. It has a noise level of less than 60dB(A). Compared to the alternative braille production methods of the past for saddle
stitch binding; a big plate press machine weighing many pounds and requiring major plant investments.
THE INDEX 71100 - THE STAPLER FOR BRAILLE
Standard staplers are not heavy enough to handle the requirements of braille binding. The paper used for braille is heavier than
conventional papers used for other applications. Index has adapted a heavy duty stapler to this specific use -- Binding Braille Books.
- It is easy to use on braille paper (25 pieces of paper Max.).
-
It is easily adjusted for different braille book widths.
-
It is very simple to center and staple the binding.

Basic Acoustic Top
Price: $945 plus shipping (please call for shipping).
The Basic Acoustic Top reduces the noise level from the Basic-D or Basic-S up to 10db(A). It is a small, light weight, affordable unit that
simply covers the Basic Braille Printer and stops noise transmission. It is designed for desktop use when the Basic is used for up to 30
minutes of continual printing. Small size and low weight makes it a portable unit.
Final noise reduction levels will depend on the acoustic characteristics of the room where the unit is used. The dominating noise from
the Basic Braille Printer with an Acoustic Top is transmitted via the paper. Index recommends having soft material around the paper
input/output area to insure minimum noise levels. The paper path is made to have the minimum noise level in front of the printer where
the paper enters.
BASIC SOUND ENCLOSURE CABINET
